the audition/all time low
Okay, can I just say that I just went to the best show I’ve ever seen last night? Because it’s true. As I mentioned, I saw The Audition and All Time Low play in Gothenburg and it was definitively so totally worth it to take the train down from Stockholm for the show!
I’m too lazy to write up an entire recap. I’ll just ramble a little. Because holy shit, seriously. Best show I’ve ever been to, including both bands as well as the venue and hanging out after the show! So it was me and my two friends Malin and Beatrice (and Malin’s friend Sara) who went together, in Gothenburg. The line was pretty okay, and we began talking to a couple of girls, joking about someone flashing a guard so we’d run in and steal some of the posters that were inside the window. Obviously, we didn’t.
We had some pretty cool spots, too! Fourth row maybe, in the middle and towards Zack’s side of the stage. Needless to say, we moved around a lot. There was so much freaking energy! Last time All Time Low came to Sweden, last year, there was like 100 people there. Now there was more like 400 or 500, which was awesome. I don’t really want to share them with anybody, and at the same time, I’m stoked that they’re getting some more recognition that they deserve!
Anyway. Everyone was superpumped, even for the Audition. They’re not that well-known in Sweden but a bunch of people sang along to their songs and everyone was jumping and dancing and stuff. So cool. The dudes seemed pretty surprised (plesantly!) of the positive reaction they were getting. They played a cover of Katy Perry’s Hot’n Cold! WHen Danny (the singer for all you who don’t know -he also happens to be my new favorite) sang the part of “Like a bitch, I would know,” he changed the lyrics to, “Like a bitch, she would know” and pointed at me. I know, not a big deal, but shit like that makes concerts fun and even more exiciting! fuck yeah, haha.
All Time Low, too. It was like the fifth time I’ve seen them play live (Warped Tour NY 2007, London Give It A Name 2008, Stockholm 2008, Norway 2008 and now Gothenburg 2009), but it was definitely their best show. So much energy from the crowd which they also seemed a bit surprised about. One dude was like “ALEX, PLAY VEGAS!” so they started the verse but didn’t remember how the guitar went, and the entire crowd was singing along for awhile, which was seriously awesome. Another dude was like “ALEX, PLAY CIRCLES”, like at least one guy does every show. ALex began playing the guitar, five notes or something, before just smiling and shaking his head.
Anyway. Best show I’ve ever been to.
Afterwards, we hung around and talked to the band for a bit. All eight bandmembers asked me where I’m from and I’m like “Sweden! I’m Swedish” and then they go, “Your english is so good!” which was pretty fun. One of the guys from The Audition, Seth I think, and me began talking about Chicago and I was like “Do you know empires?!” and he does! Apparently, he and Tom dated the same girl once. I said, “Awkward.” And he goes, “It wasn’t at the same time, but still, kind of awkward.”
Do you want to know who my favorite new band dude is? Danny Stevens. Hands down, danny stevens ROCKS. we talked a bit about swedish money, even more about traveling, etc. I said me and my family have moved around alot and he asked if it was because my dad was in the navy. Which would have been way cooler than the real answer, that he works with cell phones. Oh well.
we got about four hours of sleep before we had to get up to catch the train back to stockholm. i was incredibly tired for the rest of the day -no shit- even if it passed really fast. despite school. i was just really bummed that i couldn’t go down to Malmö, another swedish city, where they were playing a second show. seriously, it was so cool.
totally awesome adventure! i can’t WAIT for the next time they get here, both bands. they’re both awesome live bands and totally sweet guys. i can’t stop listening to the audition, but i couldn’t find their new record, “Self-Titled Album”, in the record store nearby my school. i WANT that cd, seriously. okay
